6th birthday of our gynecology and obstetrics clinic in Afar/Ethiopia

We are happy about the 6th birthday of our gynecology and obstetrics clinic in Afar/Ethiopia.

Despite the ongoing armed conflict in the Tigray region, which borders Afar and is the supply hub of the project, in addition to the corona challenge, we are able to keep the clinic running. Other medical aid organizations in Tigray even suffered terrible, fatal losses a few days ago.

The safety of the staff on site and the patients in our clinic is an absolute priority. Providing care is incredibly complex and challenging. There are massive shortages in every area. Materials are difficult or impossible to obtain. Air traffic between the capital and the town closest to the clinic is temporarily suspended. Deliveries are difficult to get through the conflict zone or are not allowed through at all. Prices are rising as fast as the thermometer in the desert sun. Telephone and internet services are interrupted for days on end. The work of volunteer doctors who have supported the clinic in the past is still suspended. Our Ethiopian team is holding the fort out of conviction and doing an incredible job. The psychological strain on the team and their families at home is great, also due to the severely restricted communication options.

See here, among other things, the new short video about the Gynecology and Obstetrics Clinic, on the occasion of its 6th anniversary.
