Thanks to the initiative of the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Social Affairs, Health and Integration, a contact point for those affected by female genital mutilation has been opened in Göppingen, according to Female Genital Mutilation.

Here, women and girls can find advice, medical care and support if they are affected or threatened by female genital mutilation (FGM)
.
The opening of this contact point is an important step towards preventing and combating FGM in southern Germany.
The Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Social Affairs, Health and Integration is thus actively campaigning for the rights of women and girls and demonstrating that FGM is recognized as an acute problem in Germany and will not be tolerated.

Incidentally, TARGET was able to prevent the imminent mutilation of a girl in Germany back in 2005. As a result of TARGET's initiative, the Federal Court of Justice passed an important judgment: If girls living in Germany who are foreign nationals are threatened with mutilation in their home country, their parents must be deprived of their right to determine their place of residence (case reference: XII ZB 166/03). The ruling gives girls living in Germany who are at risk of FGM a protective legal basis.
