Brazilian Ministry of Health thanks TARGET for ad-hoc medical support in greeting video

Robson Santos da Silva (video) is the head of the Indigenous Health Secretariat (Secretaria Especial de Saúde Indígena - SESAI) of the Brazilian Ministry of Health. He contacted TARGET e. V.: Sand flea infestation in the jungle - 30 Yanomami and Xavante families affected. The hands and feet of those affected are severely affected. The medicine that can provide relief is currently not available in Brazil. TARGET responded:

"Thanks to our loyal supporters, who provide us with financial backing, we can react spontaneously, initiate everything immediately in the event of an emergency call from Brazil and help quickly. We are delighted that we have managed to get the medicine and bring it to Brazil in the shortest possible time, where it is now being used immediately. We are particularly pleased to be able to help the Yanomami again. Rüdiger Nehberg's commitment to human rights began with this people. A return to the roots, so to speak. Many thanks to all those who have supported us," Sophie Weber, TARGET e. V. Rüdiger Nehberg Board of Directors.

SESAI is TARGET's cooperation partner in projects to support indigenous peoples and protect the Amazon rainforest. The concept has proven its worth since 2002: TARGET e. V. builds and maintains health stations, SESAI supplies medicines, equipment and medical staff. Starting with the Waiãpi in 2002, the Guarani-Kaiowá people were also added in 2021. A TARGET infirmary is currently being completed on site. We reported on this in the Annual Letter 2021. Shortly before the end of the year, we are now also able to provide medical support to the Yanomami and Xavante peoples. This is because TARGET is the only international NGO that has managed to sign a cooperation agreement with the Brazilian government, which enables us to provide urgently needed medical aid not only to the Waiãpi as before, but now to all indigenous peoples in Brazil.

The medicine is due to be used before the end of December.
