As a trained baker, he traveled to foreign countries at the age of 17, initially by bike, driven by a thirst for adventure and curiosity about the world. In order to get by in these foreign regions of the world, he gathered all the information available for a self-sufficient life in the wilderness and thus became the survival pope of Germany.
As a Karl May fan, he wanted to get to know the way of life of the indigenous people. This led him to the Yanomami people in the Brazilian Amazon rainforest in 1980 and years later to meet his future wife Annette. From then on, he campaigned for their rights and the protection of the rainforest with spectacular campaigns. In 2000, he founded his own human rights organization TARGET e. V. Rüdiger Nehberg with his future wife Annette Weber. The organization's focus is on campaigning for the end of female genital mutilation with Islam as a partner and the protection of indigenous peoples and the rainforest.
By the time of his death in 2020, he had achieved many groundbreaking successes in this field. He was honored for this with numerous awards.
Rüdiger Nehberg wrote over 30 books about his adventures and on the subject of survival. His last book is his legacy. It was published 5 days after his death: Courage is no match for danger.
