Medical help for girls and women in need
TARGET's aid for girls and women affected by female genital mutilation continues, despite the evacuation of our Danakil Gynecology and Obstetrics Clinic in Afar due to the armed conflict in Ethiopia*.
Our medical team is on the road in the humanitarian crisis area of Afar Zone II. Specializing in the care of girls and women suffering from the consequences of female genital mutilation, our team provides medical treatment, emergency care, care for pregnant women and even obstetric care. If necessary, our TARGET outpatient clinic takes particularly complicated cases to the nearest hospital (550 kilometers away). One day of medical assistance costs 115 euros.
* In November 2020, an armed conflict broke out between the Tigray People's Liberation Front (TPLF) and the Ethiopian central government in the Tigray region (Danakil Desert) in northern Ethiopia. Assault rifles, grenade launchers, rockets, tanks, casualties - hundreds of thousands of people fled. The humanitarian emergency began. In January 2022, the fighting reached TARGET's gynecology and obstetrics clinic in the neighboring Afar region. The clinic was evacuated in time. The peace negotiations at the end of October 2022 ended positively. Now we hope with the people on the ground.
