FGM educational material for a village
The material consists of TARGET's Golden Book and brochures
The basis of our educational campaign for an end to the genital mutilation of girls and women is "The Golden Book". It conveys the message that female genital mutilation is incompatible with Islam. The book was created on the basis of the "International Conference of Islamic Scholars" at the Al-Azhar in Cairo, to which TARGET had invited in 2006 with the aim of winning over high clerics for an end to female genital mutilation. At this conference, top Muslim theologians outlawed female genital mutilation as a "crime" incompatible with their religion.
The educational material (Golden Book and illustrative picture brochures) is handed out in multiple copies during our visits to multipliers such as imams, village elders, teachers, health facilities as well as women's and youth groups.
