Honorary citizen of the Afar people (2006)

Great surprise and honor during the TARGET Scholars Conference of Al-Azhar in November 2006 in Cairo! Sheikh Darassa of the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs of the Afar People (Ethiopia) awards Annette Weber and Rüdiger Nehberg "Honorary Citizenship of the Afar People" in the name of his Sultan Ali Mirah Hanfary.

In the certificate, the Sultan recognizes:

• "the TARGET conference on Assayata organized by Annette and Rüdiger in 2002, which was the first and decisive impetus to end the inherited harmful custom of female genital mutilation
• the sponsorship of two girls from the Afar people and their families to secure them a more hopeful future
• that TARGET supports the Afar with the 'Traveling TARGET Infirmary'."
