Multipliers

In the West African country of Guinea-Bissau, TARGET is working intensively to end female genital mutilation. An important instrument for this is the training and further education of multipliers: people who, due to their convictions and possibly also due to their social or religious work, are suitable for carrying the message of the integrity of female health to the places in the country.

Multipliers, i.e. imams, community leaders, young people, women and health workers.

They meet regularly to exchange experiences, for example at the end of November in Gabu, the largest city in the arid east of the West African country with a good 40,000 inhabitants. In the period between June and November, 65 multipliers - divided into four districts - held 59 events to sensitize participants to this important topic.

In this way, 2,718 people were reached.

For these people, the discussions with the multipliers trained by TARGET are concrete impulses for a change in behavior. Step by step, this gives more and more women and girls the prospect of no longer having to suffer the unspeakable consequences of mutilation.
