Our awareness campaign with the tried and tested visits to towns and villages by two teams (imam, assistant, nurse and driver) continued in 2022.
The aim of the campaign: End female genital mutilation (FGM)!
A new addition in 2022 was the support of multipliers. They are imams, community leaders, women, male and female adolescents and health workers who have signaled their support for an end to FGM. They are trained by TARGET e. V. and are then active with their own events.
TARGET e. V. has also produced a radio campaign with short reports on genital mutilation in the context of tradition and religion. From July to September, they were broadcast in Creole, Mandingo and Fula:
"Don't cut off our daughters' future. It is good that we respect our traditions, but the fanado (FGM term in Guinea-Bissau) harms their bodies and their souls," was one of the cautionary appeals.
Find out more about the campaigns in Guinea-Bissau and TARGET's work to end female genital mutilation in the Annual Letter 2022 .
