Young generation from Ethiopia thanks TARGET

An inspiring message from Afar: young people appreciate our commitment

A moving message of thanks has reached the team at the Danakil Gynecology and Obstetrics Clinic in Ethiopia. A group of young people from the Konnaba district in the state of Afar - including students and university lecturers from Samara - presented a certificate of appreciation for the work of the clinic, which provides reliable help to girls and women despite the huge daily challenges they face.

We would like to share this gratitude with you, our donors - because without your support, this vital help would not be possible.

"Your dedication and care in the most vulnerable moments is an inspiration to us all," reads the message presented to the clinic team a few days ago. The young people are committed to education and sport in their home country of Afar. They want to inspire their generation for a path to a promising future. Many of them have close family ties to the clinic - mothers, sisters and aunts have already been helped here.

Medical help for women and girls suffering from the consequences of FGM

This surprising certificate of thanks shows how important the work of this large TARGET project is for the people in the outback of the vast Danakil Desert. Ethiopia is one of the countries with one of the highest rates of female genital mutilation (FGM). According to UNICEF, around 65% of women are affected nationwide, and the figures are even higher in the Afar region.

The clinic in Danakil offers medical care to women and girls who suffer from the serious health consequences of FGM. Many patients come with complications during pregnancy and childbirth or with chronic pain due to the genital mutilation they have suffered. Here they not only find expert help, but also information and education on the causes and consequences of this millennia-old tradition.

The support of our donors makes this project in the Danakil possible in the first place.
