The Afar Award of Excellence (2010)

The Afar from Ethiopia, Eritrea and Djibouti living abroad came together in 1992 to form the Afar Forum. The Forum is committed to solving the problems of the Afar both at home and abroad while maintaining political neutrality. The Afar Award of Excellence was created in recognition of our work with this people and was presented for the first time in 2010. To us!

Our project manager Ali Mekla Dabala is Afar. He accepted the award in Brussels. It recognizes our services to the Afar people. In addition to the fight against female genital mutilation, this includes the mobile clinic (since 2005). The obstetrics clinic is another TARGET project in their homeland, the Danakil Desert in Ethiopia. In 2006, Annette and Rüdiger were named the first honorary citizens of the Afar.
