B.A.U.M. Special Prize (2007)

Federal President Horst Köhler honors Rüdiger Nehberg and Annette Weber's success against female genital mutilation

On June 5, Rüdiger Nehberg was awarded the International B.A.U.M.* Special Prize 2007 in Berlin. The award recognizes in particular the cooperation between Rüdiger Nehberg and his wife Annette Weber and numerous spiritual leaders of Islam, which reached its high point to date with the official outlawing of the crime at the 2006 conference in Cairo.

The prestigious award was presented by the First Mayor of Hamburg and Chairman of the CDU Climate Commission, Ole von Beust, as well as B.A.U.M. Chairman Prof. Dr. Maximilian Gege and Board Member Martin Oldeland. The B.A.U.M. prize is awarded to people who have been particularly successful and exemplary in their efforts to protect nature and the environment for many years. Other award winners have included Leonardo di Caprio and Countess Sonja von Bernadotte.

During a small ceremony at Bellevue Palace on June 6, the success was also recognized by German President Horst Köhler. "If I can support your work, please don't hesitate to let me know." This is a strong tailwind for TARGET's work!

Another highlight was Rüdiger and Annette's meeting with Nobel Peace Prize winner Muhammad Yunus. He received this great award in 2006 for his commitment to the poorest people in his home country of Bangladesh by granting microloans.
