"The Golden Book" in Mauritania

Mauritania was the first country in which Annette and Rüdiger Nehberg presented their "Golden Book". The TARGET conference took place on October 16 at the National Museum in the capital Nouackchott. Grand Mufti Hamden Ould Tah and the country's Islamic scholars examined the work and found it to be "worthy of Islam" without reservation. They promised to preach the content in their communities for the protection of girls. Incidentally, Grand Mufti Hamden Ould Tah came up with the far-sighted idea of convening a summit meeting of all Islamic clerics on the subject of female genital mutilation. He had Hamburg or Berlin in mind. It ended up being Al-Azhar, the center of Sunni Islam.

In Mauritania, Annette and Rüdiger Nehberg went from oasis to oasis with their "Caravan of Hope" back in 2005 to bring the message of the ban on the practice to the people on behalf of the Grand Mufti.

The distribution of the "Golden Book" is still ongoing because it is very laborious in the huge desert state. The area is roughly equivalent to that of Germany, Denmark and France combined.
