Gold Award and Special Award (2007)

At the WorldMediaFestival 2007 in Hamburg, the 60-minute TV documentary "Die 'Sache' -Feldzug gegen ein Tabu" (arte/ZDF, production uc-tv Hamburg/director Heike Mundzeck) surprisingly won two awards on May 9:

The GOLD AWARD in the ethics/religion category and the SPECIAL AWARD "Hand in Hand" for "outstanding social improvements".

The film describes the unusual path and success of Rüdiger Nehberg/Annette Weber and their human rights organization TARGET in the fight against female genital mutilation.

The film takes us to the victims, perpetrators and decision-makers. It tells of TARGET's traveling infirmary in the Ethiopian desert, of an aid project for unemployed female mutilators, of individual fates and the "Caravan of Hope". It also takes us to the sacred halls of Al Azhar in Cairo, where in November 2006, at TARGET's invitation, the International Scholars' Conference took place under the patronage of the Grand Mufti of Egypt with the sensational resolution against female genital mutilation. And he accompanies the girl Amina, who fell silent after her genital mutilation.

At the WorldMediaFestival, not only technical and creative achievement is assessed, but also how well a film appeals to its target group.
