A few days ago, Annette and Rüdiger Nehberg returned from their trip to Ethiopia. During this time, the German ambassador Brita Wagener also visited our obstetrics clinic in Afar, accompanied by Christoph Weigelmeier, the advisor for economic cooperation and development.
"I am very impressed by the intensive, careful and dedicated work of the entire clinic team. The women of the entire region, who are coping with their lives there under difficult conditions, are benefiting from this extraordinary project," the ambassador concluded.
Katja Käßner, who is responsible for the project, took the distinguished visitor on a fictitious tour of the wards that a patient passes through from arrival to discharge as an "admitted patient with severe contractions". The embassy guests were thus able to experience the hospital procedures as well as the problems that our hospital team has to face - be it due to the genital mutilation of patients or the hurdles of communication during the postnatal FGM discussion. A tour of the various supply units from the kitchen to the laundry to the photovoltaic system and the water and sewage system, which make the smooth running of the self-sufficient project possible, completed the tour.
